Σπούδασε στην Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών και μετά το πέρας των σπουδών του μετέβη απευθείας στο εξωτερικό και πραγματοποίησε το σύνολο της ειδικότητας της Χειρουργικής σε ένα από τα πλέον ιστορικά και ονομαστά Πανεπιστήμια της Γερμανίας, την Πανεπιστημιακή Κλινική του «Philipps-University Marburg», που αποτελεί κορυφαίο κέντρο αναφοράς στη χειρουργική ενδοκρινών αδένων και νευροενδοκρινών όγκων. Holzer, διαχειρίστηκαν και αντιμετώπισαν επί σειρά ετών ένα μεγάλο αριθμό περιστατικών, που αφορούσαν τόσο καλοήθεις όσο και κακοήθεις παθήσεις θυρεοειδούς, επινεφριδίων και παθήσεις των παραθυρεοειδών αδένων.

Παράλληλα με την εξειδίκευσή του στη χειρουργική ενδοκρινών αδένων, παρακολούθησε το Μεταπτυχιακό Πρόγραμμα του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης, με αντικείμενο τη Στατιστική και Αναλυτική Βιοϊατρικών Δεδομένων (Health Statistics and Data Analytics), το οποίο και ολοκλήρωσε με άριστα, αποκτώντας τον τίτλο Master of Science (MSc).
