Professor Petroutsos Georgios MD, PhD is an Ophthalmic Surgeon with private practices in Athens and Kifisia. He possesses extensive experience in corneal diseases, dry eye syndrome, rheumatic eye disorders, and glaucoma. Surgically, he specializes in cataract surgery and the correction of myopia, astigmatism, hypermetropia, and presbyopia using specialized intraocular lenses. For glaucoma, he applies the latest methods including Laser Trabeculoplasty and Diode Laser External Cyclophotocoagulation. Additionally, he engages in the correction of myopia, hypermetropia, and astigmatism with laser techniques. Following his specialty training, he worked for three years in Paris at the Ophthalmology Clinics of Hôtel-Dieu Université Paris VI and Broussais Hôtel-Dieu, the largest ophthalmologic clinic in France. He served as a Researcher at I.N.S.E.R.M (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale), Ophthalmology Group Unit 86, and as a Researcher at C.N.R.S (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), Unit 118. He was appointed Maître de Conférences Agrégé des Universités à titre étranger. In March 1987, he was conferred the title of Professeur des Universités - Praticien Hospitalier à titre étranger. After his three-year stay in France, he worked for various periods at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. He returned from abroad in 1985 and was appointed Chief Ophthalmologist Grade A at the Athens Eye Hospital. From 1986, he worked at the University Hospital of Ioannina as an Assistant Professor and later Associate Professor until 1992. He gained particular expertise in Sjogren’s syndrome through collaboration with the Internal Medicine Clinic and Professor Ch. Moutsopoulos. He has authored three dissertations, over 50 foreign-language scientific publications, and more than 150 Greek publications. From 1992, he served as Director of the Ophthalmology Clinic at the Blue Cross for fifteen years. He currently performs surgery at the specialized Ophthalmology Clinic Hypapanti tou Christou.
