Είναι Επιμελητής της Γ’ Καρδιολογικής Κλινικής και του Καρδιολογικού Ρυθμολογικού Κέντρου της Γενικής Κλινικής ΙΑΣΩ. Επίσης, κατέχει τη θέση του επίτιμου Επιμελητή Καρδιολογίας - Ηλεκτροφυσιολογίας στο Bristol Heart Institute, όπου πραγματοποιεί επεμβατικές πράξεις.

Είναι απόφοιτος της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών. Μετά την ολοκλήρωση της ειδικότητας της Καρδιολογίας, πραγματοποίησε εξειδίκευση (Post-CCT Fellowship) στην Επεμβατική Ηλεκτροφυσιολογία και στις Καρδιακές Συσκευές στο διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένο Bristol Heart Institute, όπου πραγματοποίησε υψηλό αριθμό επεμβάσεων  και εξειδικεύτηκε περαιτέρω στην κατάλυση συμπλοκών καρδιακών αρρυθμιών (κολπική μαρμαρυγή και πτερυγισμός), όπως επίσης κοιλιακών αρρυθμιών συμπεριλαμβανομένης της επικαρδιακής κατάλυσης. Έχει εξειδικευθεί στην εμφύτευση Καρδιακών Συσκευών (βηματοδότες, αμφικοιλιακοί βηματοδότες/απινιδωτές και υποδόριοι απινιδωτές). Επίσης, έχει εκπαιδευτεί στην εκφύτευση (αφαίρεση) καρδιακών συσκευών. Ο Δημήτριος Γεροντίτης είναι Διαπιστευμένος Ειδικός στην Επεμβατική αντιμετώπιση Αρρυθμιών (Επεμβατική Ηλεκτροφυσιολογία - ECES και στις Καρδιακές Συσκευές - ECDS) από την Ευρωπαϊκή Αρρυθμιολογική Εταιρεία (EHRA). Επίσης, έχει λάβει πιστοποίηση από την Βρετανική Εταιρεία Υπερηχοκαρδιογραφίας (British Society of Echocardiography) στη Διαθωρακική Υπερηχοκαρδιογραφία και είναι μέλος του Βασιλικού Κολλεγίου των Ιατρών του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου (RCP). Επιπλέον, των κλινικών δραστηριοτήτων έχει έντονο ερευνητικό και διδακτικό ενδιαφέρον. Έχει οργανώσει εκπαιδευτικές συνεδρίες για τους ειδικευόμενους Καρδιολογίας και ήταν υπεύθυνος οργάνωσης των “EP traces” στο Wessex Deanery. Έχει ολοκληρώσει το post-graduate module “Teaching and Learning in Medical Education” στο University College London σχετικά με την Ιατρική εκπαίδευση. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε κλινικές μελέτες και έχει δημοσιεύσεις σε υψηλού κύρους διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά στην ειδικότητα της Καρδιολογίας  και Ηλεκτροφυσιολογίας. Eξαιρετικός γιατρός. Μου εξήγησε με πολύ απλά λόγια τις εξετάσεις, και με έκανε να νιώσω ήρεμη από την πρώτη στιγμή. Είχε μια πιο ολοκληρωμένη προσέγγιση από άλλους γιατρούς που έχω δει και δεν με φόρτωσε με άσκοπες εξετάσεις. Το ραντεβού κλείστηκε γρήγορα και το follow-up ήταν άψογο. Τον προτείνω χωρίς δεύτερη σκέψη.
