Το 2001, κατόπιν διεξαγωγής κρατικών εξετάσεων, όπου και του απονεμήθηκε υποτροφία, ξεκίνησε την ειδικότητα στην Γαστρεντερολογία και Ενδοσκόπηση του Πεπτικού στην Πανεπιστημιακή Γαστρεντερολογική Κλινική του Πανεπιστημίου της L’Aquila Ιταλίας, την οποία και ολοκλήρωσε το 2005 με την μέγιστη βαθμολογία (50/50 magna cum laude).
