I am Yiangos Karavis, an Anesthesiology Resident and Pain Medicine physician, with a particular focus on Medical Acupuncture and the management of acute and chronic pain.

I have extensive clinical experience in Medical Acupuncture, with daily clinical practice since 2021 at the Center for Research and Application of Acupuncture.

I come from a family with a long-standing tradition in Medical Acupuncture, with a shared commitment to patient relief and the continuous evolution of medical care.

My approach always starts with the patient and a thorough assessment of their condition. Based on the diagnosis, whether it has already been established by another physician or arises from my own clinical assessment and, when necessary, laboratory or imaging investigations, or where there is an initial working diagnosis, we assess whether Medical Acupuncture is an appropriate treatment option. In patients with complex symptoms, where individual symptoms cannot necessarily be explained by a single syndrome or diagnosis, each symptom is assessed separately to determine whether therapeutic benefit may be achieved.

The decision to use Medical Acupuncture is not based on a general belief that “acupuncture helps”, but on available scientific evidence, international guidelines and the individual characteristics of each patient. We discuss the potential benefits, limitations and realistic expectations of treatment, allowing the patient to make an informed decision about whether it is worth trying.

Treatment effectiveness is assessed in practice through the patient’s own experience and through specific therapeutic goals. Medical Acupuncture is one therapeutic tool in the management of the patient and, often, a complementary tool within an overall process of treatment and rehabilitation.

My clinical experience in Medical Acupuncture is complemented by an MSc in Algology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, completed in 2026, as well as a Clinical Fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at Sant’Andrea University Hospital in Rome. I have also received training in modern ultrasound-based diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, using ultrasound as a tool for safer and more targeted treatment.

Alongside my clinical practice, I am actively involved in the education of healthcare professionals in Medical Acupuncture. I teach in the AcuScience educational program and participate in the teaching of the “Acupuncture for Health Professionals” program at the University of West Attica. My scientific activity focuses on Pain Medicine and Medical Acupuncture, with participation in scientific research and publications in the field.

My goal is to connect my family’s long-standing tradition in Medical Acupuncture with modern Pain Medicine, drawing on current scientific knowledge, international guidelines and contemporary techniques. I believe in a collaborative relationship with the patient, where treatment has clear goals, is evaluated throughout the process and is adapted to the individual needs and expectations of each person.
