Dr. Giannakos Athanasios-Rene S. is specialized in arthroscopic surgery of sports-related knee and shoulder injuries, as well as in M.I.S. Fast Track total knee and hip arthroplasty. He initiated and completed his Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology residency at the University General Hospital of Larissa in the Orthopedic Clinic Department under the direction of Professor K.N. Malizos. He is a PhD candidate at the Medical School of the University of Thessaly. During the final year of his residency, he trained in shoulder and knee arthroscopic surgery at the Minimal Access Surgery Unit of the I.R.C.C.S. GSD Hospital, Milan, Italy, under Professor and Director Prof. Pietro Randelli. He also trained in M.I.S. Fast Track total hip and knee arthroplasty and arthroscopic surgery at the Luganese Hospital, Lugano, Switzerland, under Professor and Director Prof. Mateo Denti. Immediately after obtaining his specialty certification, he was appointed as a permanent consultant at the Minimal Access Surgery Unit of the I.R.C.C.S. GSD Hospital, Milan, Italy, under Professor and Director Prof. Pietro Randelli. He began his Sports Medicine specialty at the University Hospital Catanzaro, Italy, following entrance exams, holding a salaried position and scholarship from the E.U., under the direction of Professor Pietro Scotto di Vettimo. During the first year of the specialty, he trained at the University Hospital Chieti, Italy, in the Sports Medicine Department under the direction of Professor Leonardo Vecchiet. There are articles, lectures, and surgeries by him available online. He collaborates with "Athens Medical Center," "Mitera" Hospital, and Mediterraneo Hospital, and is a scientific collaborator. He maintains private practice offices in Chalandri and Nea Smyrni.
