Γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στον Πειραιά και κατάγεται από τη Λάγια της Μάνης. Αποφοίτησε από την Ιωνίδειο Πρότυπο Σχολή Πειραιά και, κατόπιν Πανελλαδικών Εξετάσεων, εισήχθη στην Ιατρική Σχολή Αθηνών και στη Στρατιωτική Σχολή Αξιωματικών Σωμάτων (ΣΣΑΣ) Θεσσαλονίκης, από όπου αποφοίτησε το 1985 ως Ανθυποσμηναγός Ιατρός.
