Gastroenterologist – Hepatologist M.D.

I am Alexandros Spyrantis, Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist M.D., with a private practice in Ilioupoli, Athens. I am also a Gastroenterologist Associate at the 1st Department of Gastroenterology and Interventional Endoscopy at IASO General Clinic.

I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Latvia in Riga and subsequently completed my specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Greece. My specialist training included the Hepato-Gastroenterology Department of G.O.N.K. “Agioi Anargyroi”, as well as clinical training at the Gastroenterology Department of General Hospital of Nikaia “Agios Panteleimon”. Prior to specialising in Gastroenterology, I trained in Internal Medicine, gaining broad clinical experience in the overall assessment and management of patients.

Gastrointestinal endoscopy is a particular area of professional interest. I have completed the Hellenic Gastroenterology Society’s Endoscopy School and have participated in hands-on training in invasive endoscopic techniques. I also regularly participate in scientific conferences and educational programmes in Greece and abroad, with a focus on Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy.

In my clinical practice, I assess and manage a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions, including gastroesophageal reflux disease, indigestion, gastritis, Helicobacter pylori infection, peptic ulcer disease, abdominal pain, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, diarrhoea and changes in bowel habits. I also evaluate gastrointestinal bleeding, colorectal polyps, diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as liver and biliary disorders.

I place particular emphasis on careful history-taking and a structured diagnostic approach. I believe that patients should clearly understand what may be causing their symptoms, why a particular investigation is recommended and what the next steps should be.

For this reason, I aim to give each patient sufficient time to discuss their symptoms, concerns and expectations. I explain the diagnosis and available treatment options in clear and understandable terms, while tailoring the medical approach to each individual patient.

My approach combines current medical knowledge with personalised care. I believe that effective medical care should take into account not only the clinical findings and scientific evidence, but also the individual needs and circumstances of each patient.

Alongside my clinical work, I maintain an active interest in medical research and continuing professional education. I have participated in scientific studies, presentations and posters at Greek and international conferences, with topics including inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, gastrointestinal endoscopy and a range of gastrointestinal conditions.

My aim is to provide patients with medical care that combines scientific expertise, careful diagnostic assessment, up-to-date knowledge and clear, compassionate communication.

For me, good medical care does not end with establishing a diagnosis. It also means providing clear information, an appropriate management plan and building a relationship of trust between doctor and patient.

Οι ενδοσκοπήσεις, (διαγνωστικές ή επεμβατικές), διενεργούνται με καταστολή υπό συνεχές monitoring όπως επιβάλλουν οι διεθνείς κατευθυντήριες οδηγίες και τα πρωτόκολλα καταστολής, καθώς το ιατρείο φέρει όλον τον εξοπλισμό που απαιτείται για την ασφάλεια του ασθενούς.

Kouloumpis Xaris is a Gastroenterologist and maintains a private practice in Aigaleo. He is a graduate of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and has worked at the General Hospital of Athens "Evangelismos." He possesses significant and extensive experience and specializes in hepatology, endoscopic gastroenterology, and digestive oncology. Varytimiadis Lazaros MD, MSc, FEBGH, PhD is a Gastroenterologist - Interventional Endoscopist, Deputy Director of the Gastroenterology Clinic and Endoscopy Department at MITERA Hospital, and maintains private practices in Pefki and Athens. He received a scholarship from the Hellenic Society of Gastroenterology and completed advanced training in Interventional Gastrointestinal Endoscopy at Queen Alexandra Hospital, where he was later appointed and worked as a Consultant. He specialized in Gastroenterology at the General Hospital of Athens "Evangelismos - Athens Ophthalmological Clinic - Polyclinic," as well as in Internal Medicine at the General Prefectural Hospital of Edessa. In 2017, he was recognized as a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (FEBGH). Additionally, he holds a PhD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with a dissertation focused on the removal of precancerous lesions (polyps) from the gastrointestinal tract. He completed a postgraduate MSc program in Crisis Management at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and graduated with honors from the Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Romania. It is noteworthy that his main clinical interests include complex polypectomies of large polyps (EMR, pEMR, ESD), monitoring patients with Barrett’s esophagus, and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. Furthermore, he has participated in numerous national and international conferences, workshops, and advanced training seminars, has received scholarships and awards for best scientific presentations, and has delivered oral presentations and posters at various scientific meetings.

Arvaniti Vasiliki - Peptiko Kai Ygeia is a Gastroenterologist - Hepatologist with a private practice in Piraeus. She studied at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a PhD from the University of Patras. She has conducted research and specialized in the liver transplantation department at the Royal Free Hospital in London, and has experience in nutritional counseling and thetahealing. She is a Reiki master and has a particular interest in psychology. She is a member of the volunteer group "Doctors of the Aegean." She is responsible for the gastroenterology department of the Day Care Unit at Yoda Piraeus, collaborates with the general clinic Piraeus "Hippocrates," the Athenian Clinic, the Medifirst Center in Marousi, and the "Metropolitan" Hospital. In her private practice, she treats conditions across the entire spectrum of gastroenterology and provides specialized services tailored to her patients' needs, placing particular emphasis on each patient's psychological well-being.

Gkaragkanis Dimosthenis is a Gastroenterologist who operates a private practice in Haidari. He holds a medical degree from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Romania and specialized in Internal Medicine at the Pathology Clinic of the Regional Hospital of Tripoli, as well as in Gastroenterology at the Gastroenterology Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens "G. Gennimatas." He is an associate physician at the Advanced Interventional Endoscopy Department of the Athens Bioclinic and a Consultant in the Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Department of Metropolitan General. He completed rural service at the Neraiodhorio Regional Clinic of the Pylis Health Center and the Stemnitsa Regional Clinic of the Dimitsana Health Center in Arcadia. Finally, the doctor regularly attends numerous conferences and seminars as part of his ongoing professional development.
