Hi, I recently had a doctor’s appointment and was diagnosed with a small umbilical hernia and abdominal muscle separation (likely diastasis recti). I also had a previous C-section and uterine rupture. I’ve been advised to start gentle abdominal strengthening exercises, but I want to make sure I do this safely. Could you please advise: 1. What are the safest exercises to start with in my case (hernia + diastasis)? 2. Are there any movements or exercises I should strictly avoid? 3. How can I tell if an exercise is making the hernia or separation worse? 4. Would an online physiotherapy program be appropriate, or do I need in-person assessment first? 5. Given my history (C-sections and rupture), are there any additional precautions I should take? I live on a small island with limited access to physio, so I’m trying to understand the safest way to begin rehabilitation at home. Thank you.
Hello it is probably better to consult a physiotherapist for this, it would be better to sse someone in person , if it's possible.
You would probably need to be guided to the exercises plus it would be better for him/her to examine you.
I wish a full recovery!

Given the complexity of your clinical history specifically the combination of a ventral hernia, diastasis recti, and the neurological/structural implications of a previous uterine rupture a standard exercise approach is insufficient. The primary concern is not just muscle weakness, but the integrity of the abdominal wall in regulating intra-abdominal pressure. Movements that trigger abdominal "doming" or bulging are often counterproductive, as they suggest the load is exceeding the tissue's current capacity to contain internal pressure. Due to the sensitivity of these structures, I strongly advise an assessment by a physiotherap...ist specializing in pelvic floor and abdominal wall rehabilitation. If you are in a remote location, a targeted telehealth consultation is a viable method to establish a safe, symptom-monitored baseline. A specialist can guide you through objective markers to determine which loads are therapeutic and which may jeopardize tissue recovery. When dealing with such a nuanced clinical presentation, individualization is the only way to ensure safe progression. Διάβασε περισσότερα

We ve to examine first from which experience should be able to do , so maybe apply physical therapy treatment, take history and try to give best instruction

It is not a wise choice to do it on your own without proffessional guidance. I would recomend you to find a physiotherapist to work with you and guide you.
