Dr. Giannakos Athanasios-Rene S. is specialized in arthroscopic surgery of sports injuries of the knee and shoulder, as well as in M.I.S. Fast Track total knee and hip arthroplasty. He initiated and completed his Orthopedic and Traumatology residency at the University General Hospital of Larissa in the Orthopedic Clinic Department under the direction of Professor K.N. Malizos. He is a PhD candidate at the Medical School of the University of Thessaly. During the final year of his residency, he trained in shoulder and knee arthroscopic surgery at the Minimal Access Surgery Unit of the I.R.C.C.S. GSD Hospital, Milan, Italy, under Professor - Director Prof. Pietro Randelli. He also trained in M.I.S. Fast Track total hip and knee arthroplasty and arthroscopic surgery at Luganese Hospital, Lugano, Switzerland, under Professor - Director Prof. Mateo Denti. Immediately after obtaining his specialty title, he was appointed as a permanent consultant at the Minimal Access Surgery Unit of the I.R.C.C.S. GSD Hospital, Milan, Italy, under Professor - Director Prof. Pietro Randelli. He began his specialty in Sports Medicine at the University Hospital, Catanzaro, Italy, after competitive examinations, holding a salaried position - scholarship funded by the E.U., under the direction of Professor Prof. Pietro Scotto di Vettimo. In his first year of specialization, he trained at the University Hospital, Chieti, Italy, in the Sports Medicine Department under the direction of Professor Prof. Leonardo Vecchiet.
