Ο Καλιοντζάκης Γιάννης είναι Παθολόγος και διατηρεί ιδιωτικό ιατρείο στα Χανιά. Εκεί, εφάρμοσε για πρώτη φορά με τους συνεργάτες του την ενδοφλέβια θρομβόλυση με εξαιρετικά αποτελέσματα, ενώ λειτουργούσε δύο φορές την εβδομάδα το ιατρείο των Εγκεφαλικών με περισσότερους από 2000 ασθενείς.
