Gastroenterologist – Hepatologist M.D.

I am Alexandros Spyrantis, Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist M.D., with a private practice in Ilioupoli, Athens. I am also a Gastroenterologist Associate at the 1st Department of Gastroenterology and Interventional Endoscopy at IASO General Clinic.

I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Latvia in Riga and subsequently completed my specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Greece. My specialist training included the Hepato-Gastroenterology Department of G.O.N.K. “Agioi Anargyroi”, as well as clinical training at the Gastroenterology Department of General Hospital of Nikaia “Agios Panteleimon”. Prior to specialising in Gastroenterology, I trained in Internal Medicine, gaining broad clinical experience in the overall assessment and management of patients.

Gastrointestinal endoscopy is a particular area of professional interest. I have completed the Hellenic Gastroenterology Society’s Endoscopy School and have participated in hands-on training in invasive endoscopic techniques. I also regularly participate in scientific conferences and educational programmes in Greece and abroad, with a focus on Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy.

In my clinical practice, I assess and manage a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions, including gastroesophageal reflux disease, indigestion, gastritis, Helicobacter pylori infection, peptic ulcer disease, abdominal pain, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, diarrhoea and changes in bowel habits. I also evaluate gastrointestinal bleeding, colorectal polyps, diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as liver and biliary disorders.

I place particular emphasis on careful history-taking and a structured diagnostic approach. I believe that patients should clearly understand what may be causing their symptoms, why a particular investigation is recommended and what the next steps should be.

For this reason, I aim to give each patient sufficient time to discuss their symptoms, concerns and expectations. I explain the diagnosis and available treatment options in clear and understandable terms, while tailoring the medical approach to each individual patient.

My approach combines current medical knowledge with personalised care. I believe that effective medical care should take into account not only the clinical findings and scientific evidence, but also the individual needs and circumstances of each patient.

Alongside my clinical work, I maintain an active interest in medical research and continuing professional education. I have participated in scientific studies, presentations and posters at Greek and international conferences, with topics including inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, gastrointestinal endoscopy and a range of gastrointestinal conditions.

My aim is to provide patients with medical care that combines scientific expertise, careful diagnostic assessment, up-to-date knowledge and clear, compassionate communication.

For me, good medical care does not end with establishing a diagnosis. It also means providing clear information, an appropriate management plan and building a relationship of trust between doctor and patient.

Ο Ζαχαριάδης Δημήτριος είναι Γαστρεντερολόγος με ιδιωτικό ιατρείο στη Γλυφάδα. Διαθέτει διδακτορική διατριβή στην ηπατίτιδα και είναι εξειδικευμένος στην ηπατολογία, στις φλεγμονώδεις νόσους εντέρου, στην ενδοσκοπική γαστρεντερολογία, στην ογκολογία πεπτικού και στη γαστροοισοφαγική παλινδρόμηση και διαθέτει τεράστια εμπειρία στις ενδοσκοπήσεις. Έχει ειδικευθεί στη Γαστρεντερολογία στο Νοσηλευτικό Ίδρυμα Μετοχικού Ταμείου Στρατού (ΝΙΜΤΣ), αλλά και στο Cornell University της Νέας Υόρκης. Ο γιατρός διατελεί Διευθυντής στο Mediterraneo Hospital. Η Σοφία Κατσίλα, MD, MSc, PhDc είναι Γαστρεντερολόγος, Επιμελήτρια στο Γενικό Νοσοκομείο Αθηνών «Ιπποκράτειο» και Υποψήφια Διδάκτωρ του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών (ΕΚΠΑ). Είναι απόφοιτος της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης και κάτοχος μεταπτυχιακού διπλώματος στη Χειρουργική Ογκολογία από το ΕΚΠΑ. Πραγματοποίησε μέρος της ειδικότητάς της στο ΓΝΑ «Ευαγγελισμός» και ολοκλήρωσε την ειδικότητα της Γαστρεντερολογίας στο ΓΝΑ «Ιπποκράτειο».

Παράλληλα, είναι επιστημονική συνεργάτιδα της Α΄ Προπαιδευτικής Χειρουργικής Κλινικής του ΕΚΠΑ, με αντικείμενο τη φυσιολογία και την κινητικότητα του οισοφάγου. Το ιδιαίτερο κλινικό και ερευνητικό της ενδιαφέρον επικεντρώνεται στη γαστροοισοφαγική παλινδρόμηση, τη διάγνωση και θεραπεία του οισοφάγου Barrett, τη διερεύνηση της δυσφαγίας, καθώς και τη διάγνωση και ενδοσκοπική αντιμετώπιση των κινητικών διαταραχών του οισοφάγου. Διαθέτει εμπειρία στη μανομετρία οισοφάγου υψηλής ανάλυσης και την 24ωρη pHμετρία–εμπεδησιομετρία, καθώς και σε νεότερες τεχνικές, όπως το EndoFLIP και το EsoFLIP.

Επιπλέον,διαθέτει μακρόχρονη εμπειρία στη διαγνωστική και θεραπευτική ενδοσκόπηση του πεπτικού, καθώς και στην παρακολούθηση ασθενών με ιδιοπαθή φλεγμονώδη νοσήματα του εντέρου (Ν.Crohn, Ελκώδης Κολίτιδα).

Karlaftis Anastasios MD is a Gastroenterologist - Hepatologist and maintains a private practice in Metamorfosi, while also collaborating with the endoscopy department of the diagnostic center "Ionio Iatriki." He is a PhD candidate at the University Gastroenterology Clinic of the Medical School of the University of Athens and a graduate of the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He specialized in the Gastroenterology Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens "G. Gennimatas" and has worked in major hospitals such as the General Hospital of Athens "Laiko," the General Hospital of Athens "Alexandra," and the General Hospital of Chania "Agios Georgios." The physician has participated in numerous scientific meetings and seminars and has numerous presentations in both foreign-language and Greek-language conferences. Additionally, he has several publications in Greek and international journals. During his tenure in university clinics, he has also contributed to teaching by delivering numerous lessons to medical students. Finally, despite practicing private medicine, he continues his research and writing activities, and recently his first book was published, entitled "Modern Guidelines in Gastroenterology and Hepatology."

Kostas Athanasios MD, PhD is a Gastroenterologist with a private practice located in Kato Toumpa, Thessaloniki. He holds a Doctorate from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and is a graduate of the same Medical School. He initially specialized at the General Hospital of Mytilene "Vostaneio" and completed his Gastroenterology specialty training at the University Gastroenterology Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens "Laiko." Additionally, he has served as a Scientific Collaborator in the Endoscopy Department of the 1st Propaedeutic Clinic of the University General Hospital of Thessaloniki AHEPA. Dr. Athanasios has participated in numerous conferences, symposia, and workshops throughout Greece, focusing primarily on Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Digestive Oncology. He also has numerous presentations at Greek and international conferences, as well as publications in foreign-language journals.

Grammenos Ioannis is a Gastroenterologist who maintains a private practice in Nea Ionia. Simultaneously, he serves as a Specialist Scientific Collaborator at the Central Clinic of the Athens Medical Center. He graduated with honors from the Medical School of the University of Rome and specialized in Gastroenterology - Hepatology at the 2nd Internal Medicine Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens "Evangelismos." Furthermore, he holds a PhD with a dissertation titled "The absorption of fructose and sorbitol in normolactasic and hypolactasic healthy adults." He also has a notable research portfolio with scientific publications in conferences and scientific journals. Finally, the doctor has participated in numerous medical conferences both in Greece and abroad.

Georgios Anagnostopoulos is a Gastroenterologist who sees patients in Marousi at the "Mitera" Clinic. He holds a medical degree from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed his Gastroenterology specialty at the 251 General Air Force Hospital. In 2002, he received a scholarship from the Hellenic Society of Gastroenterology and pursued advanced training as an Advanced Endoscopy Research Fellow at the Wolfson Digestive Diseases Centre, University of Nottingham, UK, and the Endoscopy Department, University of Mainz, Germany. His training focused on advanced micro-endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic techniques such as magnifying endoscopy, chromoendoscopy, Narrow Band Imaging, confocal endomicroscopy, autofluorescence endoscopy, endoscopic mucosal resection, and photodynamic therapy for Barrett’s esophagus. A considerable number of his studies have been published in reputable peer-reviewed international medical journals. He has more than 100 presentations at Greek and international conferences and continues to frequently publish articles in the Greek press. It is noteworthy that his primary interests include the monitoring of patients with Barrett’s esophagus and ulcerative colitis, as well as the endoscopic evaluation of patients with precancerous lesions in the gastrointestinal tract (dysplasia). Furthermore, he specializes in complex polypectomies of flat polyps (endoscopic mucosal resection), ablation of Barrett’s esophagus epithelium using radiofrequency ablation (HALO), and obesity treatment through the revolutionary endoscopic AspireAssist method.

Tzannetakou Ksanthippi is a Gastroenterologist who maintains a private practice in Kolonaki. She studied at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and specialized in Gastroenterology at the General Hospital of Athens “Evangelismos.” Additionally, she is an Attending Physician at the B' Gastroenterology Clinic of Iaso Hospital. She was a scholarship recipient of the State Scholarships Foundation for every academic year and obtained the specialty title in Gastroenterology. She served as a Consultant in the Endoscopy Department of the 1st IKA Hospital for a decade. She has a fully equipped office and performs esophagogastroscopies, rectoscopies, proctoscopies, colonoscopies, abdominal ultrasounds, and endoscopic polypectomies of the stomach and large intestine. Additionally, she provides treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease – Barrett's esophagus – and inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Finally, she has participated in numerous scientific papers presented in Greek and international scientific journals and is a member of Greek and European medical associations.

Tarampoulous Dauid is a Gastroenterologist and holds a medical degree. He served as a rural doctor in the region of Grevena and fulfilled his military duties as a medical officer in the healthcare service. He worked as an unpaid collaborator in the Gastroenterology Department of the General Clinic Euromedica. He specialized in Pathology at the General Hospital of Edessa, while simultaneously collaborating with the Endoscopy Department of the hospital. As a salaried associate in the Gastroenterology Department of the General Clinic Euromedica, he performed a large number of interventional procedures daily (under the direction of the Head of the Gastroenterology Department, Alexandros Kofokotsios). At the same time, he conducted on-call shifts in the Pathology Department of the General Clinic Euromedica (under the direction of Professor Athanasios Dimitriadis). For four years, he specialized in Gastroenterology at the Thessaloniki General Hospital "Hippokration" in the 2nd Propaedeutic Internal Medicine University Clinic, successfully undertaking numerous endoscopic procedures (both diagnostic and interventional). Pontas Xristos is a Gastroenterologist and maintains his private practice in Athens. He has served as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Acute General Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital Hampstead NHS Trust and as a Clinical Fellow in the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Department of the same hospital in London. It is noteworthy that he was awarded a UEG (United European Gastroenterology) Scholarship as well as a Scholarship from the Hellenic Gastroenterological Society. Smyrnidis Aleksandros is a Gastroenterologist with a private clinic in Keratsini. He graduated from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed a 9-month fellowship in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and wireless capsule endoscopy of the small and large intestine in Edinburgh. Additionally, he undertook a 6-month fellowship in the Second Gastroenterology Clinic of the General Hospital "Evangelismos," specializing in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). He is a member of the Hellenic Foundation for Gastroenterology & Nutrition, the European Association for the Study of the Liver, and the Hellenic Association for the Study of the Liver. He consistently attends conferences and seminars in Greece and abroad, aiming for excellent training and continuous professional development in his area of expertise.

Georgios Xrysakopoulos is a Gastroenterologist who maintains a private practice in Trikala, Thessaly. He graduated from the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and completed his specialty in Gastroenterology at the Endoscopy Department of the 1st IKA Therapeutic Hospital in Athens and at the Gastroenterology Clinic of the General Oncology Hospital of Kifisia "Agioi Anargyroi". Ms. Panagiotaki Maria, MD, FEBGH is a Gastroenterologist - Endoscopist at Iatriko (Marousi) and maintains a private practice in Kifisia. She graduated with honors from the German School of Athens, was admitted through national examinations, and obtained her medical degree from the Medical School of the University of Athens. In 2006, she was awarded the specialty title in Gastroenterology and later received the European Diploma in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (FEBGH). She pursued further training as a fellow of the Hellenic Gastroenterological Society at the internationally renowned reference hospital "Klinikum Rechts der Isar, der TUM" (Munich) in endoscopy, advanced endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for precancerous and other gastrointestinal diseases, as well as endoscopic ultrasound. She has participated in numerous seminars and conferences both in Greece and abroad, accumulating a significant number of publications, focusing on lifelong education and updating. She has extensive experience from her tenure at the "Sismanogleio" and "Red Cross" Hospitals, as well as fifteen years of activity in the private sector, having successfully managed the full spectrum of gastroenterology. She performs upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies at the 3rd endoscopy department of the "Iatriko Athinon" Hospital (Marousi) in collaboration with an excellent anesthesiologist to ensure safe and painless examinations with high diagnostic value. She is a member of the Hellenic Gastroenterological Society and the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Siannis Dimitrios is a Gastroenterologist who maintains a private practice in Gerakas. He is specialized in hepatology and endoscopic gastroenterology, with particular expertise in therapeutic and interventional endoscopic techniques (gastric and colon polypectomies). He completed his Gastroenterology training at the 1st IKA Hospital and the General Hospital of Attica Sismanoglio. Polykseni Kalisperati is a Gastroenterologist with extensive clinical experience and a strong academic/research background, aiming to provide comprehensive and personalized care to each patient at her private practice. She is a graduate of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a PhD from the Medical School of Athens.

She currently serves as an Assistant Gastroenterology Consultant B’ at the General Hospital of Athens "ELPIS," having also trained and worked for several years at the General Hospital of Athens "Laiko" (University Gastroenterology Clinic & Clinic of Pathological Physiology), gaining extensive experience across the full spectrum of modern Gastroenterology. Additionally, she actively participates in scientific publications in international journals and is a regular speaker at conferences. She also maintains an educational role in Pathological Physiology at the Medical School of Athens, contributing to the teaching of undergraduate students.

At her practice, Dr. Kalisperati addresses each case with respect, empathy, and scientific evidence, dedicating time for meaningful discussion, proper information, and clear guidance. Her goal is accurate diagnosis, targeted treatment, and long-term follow-up with an emphasis on prevention and improvement of quality of life.
