Hematologist Dr. Garypidou - Vratskidou Vasileia is an Emeritus Professor of Pathology - Hematology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She was born in Katerini, graduated from the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and holds specialties in Pathology and Hematology. She received honors both in her undergraduate and postgraduate studies. She underwent further training in the Hematology Department of the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London, in the General Hematology Unit and the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. For many years, she was head of the Hematology Department of the 2nd Propaedeutic Pathology University Clinic at the General Hospital of Thessaloniki "Hippokration" (a department that monitors and treats patients with all benign and malignant hematological diseases) and of the Hemophilia Center of Northern Greece (the only adult center in Northern Greece for hereditary disorders of hemostasis). Dr. Garypidou has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of hematological disorders such as anemias of various etiologies, Mediterranean and sickle cell anemia, acute and chronic leukemias, lymphomas, multiple myeloma, myeloproliferative and myelodysplastic syndromes, and lymphadenopathies. Additionally, she manages conditions involving high or low white blood cells, high or low platelets, elevated hematocrit, bleeding tendencies, thrombophilia, thromboses, anticoagulant therapy, and hematological and thrombotic complications during pregnancy, among others.
