Επιμελητής στο Τμήμα Γενικής, Λαπαροσκοπικής, Ογκολογικής και Ρομποτικής Χειρουργικής στο Ιατρικό Κέντρο Αθηνών

Σπούδασε στην Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών και μετά το πέρας των σπουδών του μετέβη απευθείας στο εξωτερικό και πραγματοποίησε το σύνολο της ειδικότητας της Χειρουργικής σε ένα από τα πλέον ιστορικά και ονομαστά Πανεπιστήμια της Γερμανίας, την Πανεπιστημιακή Κλινική του «Philipps-University Marburg», που αποτελεί κορυφαίο κέντρο αναφοράς στη χειρουργική ενδοκρινών αδένων και νευροενδοκρινών όγκων. Το έντονο και διαρκώς αυξανόμενο επιστημονικό και ακαδημαϊκό ενδιαφέρον του, τον οδήγησε στην ολοκλήρωση της διδακτορικής του διατριβής το 2019 με θέμα «Evaluation of the safety of early drain removal after partial pancreaticoduodenectomy».

Μετά την απόκτηση της ειδικότητας της Γενικής και Σπλαχνικής Χειρουργικής, εργάστηκε αρχικά ως επιμελητής Β και στη συνέχεια ως επιμελητής Α και σε άλλες ονομαστές κλινικές της Γερμανίας, συμμετέχοντας και διενεργώντας και ο ίδιος πληθώρα επεμβάσεων που καλύπτουν όλο το φάσμα της γενικής χειρουργικής. Τα τελευταία χρόνια επικεντρώθηκε στη χειρουργική ενδοκρινών αδένων εργαζόμενος σε ονομαστά κέντρα αναφοράς της Γερμανίας, στο Essen υπό τη διεύθυνση του Prof. M. Walz και στη συνέχεια στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Marburg, όπου σε συνεργασία με την υπεύθυνη του τμήματος χειρουργικής ενδοκρινών αδένων και πρόεδρο της Πανγερμανικής Εταιρίας Χειρουργικής Ενδοκρινών Αδένων, Prof. K. Holzer, διαχειρίστηκαν και αντιμετώπισαν επί σειρά ετών ένα μεγάλο αριθμό περιστατικών, που αφορούσαν τόσο καλοήθεις όσο και κακοήθεις παθήσεις θυρεοειδούς, επινεφριδίων και παθήσεις των παραθυρεοειδών αδένων.

Παράλληλα με την εξειδίκευσή του στη χειρουργική ενδοκρινών αδένων, παρακολούθησε το Μεταπτυχιακό Πρόγραμμα του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης, με αντικείμενο τη Στατιστική και Αναλυτική Βιοϊατρικών Δεδομένων (Health Statistics and Data Analytics), το οποίο και ολοκλήρωσε με άριστα, αποκτώντας τον τίτλο Master of Science (MSc). Το πλούσιο συγγραφικό του έργο και η απρόσκοπτη ενασχόληση του με την εκπαίδευση των φοιτητών της Πανεπιστημιακής Κλινικής Marburg άνοιξαν το δρόμο για την αναγόρευσή του σε Αναπληρωτή Καθηγητή (PD Dr. med.) στο Πανεπιστήμιο «Philipps-University Marburg». Συνεχίζει με υπευθυνότητα και αμείωτο ενθουσιασμό το ακαδημαϊκό του έργο στην Πανεπιστημιακή Κλινική Marburg, συμμετέχοντας στη διδασκαλία και την επίβλεψη διδακτορικών διατριβών των φοιτητών του Πανεπιστημίου.

Έχει συμμετάσχει σε πληθώρα πανευρωπαϊκών και πανγερμανικών συνεδρίων χειρουργικής ενδοκρινών αδένων και νευροενδοκρινών όγκων με παρουσιάσεις σε μορφή posters (ελεύθερων ανακοινώσεων) και ομιλιών, ενώ έχει βραβευτεί για το επιστημονικό του έργο από τη Γερμανική Εταιρία Χειρουργικής Ενδοκρινών Αδένων. Το συγγραφικό του έργο αριθμεί πάνω από 40 επιστημονικές δημοσιεύσεις στο PubMed σε μεγάλα διεθνή ιατρικά περιοδικά, πάνω από 890 βιβλιογραφικές αναφορές και ειδικό δείκτη παραπομπών (h-index) 15. Ως ενεργό μέλος της Ακαδημαϊκής Κοινότητας του Πανεπιστημίου του Marburg συνεχίζει το ακαδημαϊκό και ερευνητικό-επιστημονικό του έργο. Παράλληλα είναι τακτικό και ενεργό μέλος της Γερμανικής Εταιρίας Χειρουργικής Ενδοκρινών Αδένων, της Γερμανικής Εταιρίας Γενικής και Σπλαχνικής Χειρουργικής και μέλος του Συλλόγου Χειρουργών Γερμανίας. 

Georgios Bpagias is a General Surgeon, PhD holder from the Medical School of Athens. He completed his medical studies at the Medical School of Athens with "Excellent" marks and undertook his specialty training in Greece and Germany (university clinics of general surgery and transplantation in Hannover and Essen). Concurrently, he completed his doctoral thesis on short bowel syndrome also with "Excellent" marks, while specializing in minimally invasive colorectal surgery at the University of Strasbourg, with an emphasis on modern laparoscopic techniques. Subsequently, he completed specialization in pelvic floor disorder management at the University of Venice.

In his clinical practice, he manages general surgery cases covering a broad spectrum, from minor procedures and routine laparoscopic surgeries to specialized colorectal and pelvic floor surgeries. His primary concern is responsible and evidence-based consultation on all surgical issues, aiming for appropriate guidance and making safe therapeutic decisions.

He maintains active scientific involvement, participating predominantly as a speaker and trainer in international, as well as pan-European and Greek scientific conferences. Additionally, he is the author of numerous scientific publications in international journals indexed in PubMed, reflecting his continuous engagement with scientific documentation and the advancement of surgery.

His philosophy is based on the proper and personalized evaluation of each case, evidence-based decision-making, and the avoidance of unnecessary surgeries when not required. Special emphasis is placed on clear, honest, and understandable communication with the patient, to ensure active participation in the therapeutic process and to foster a sense of safety and trust.

Polykalas Spyridon MD, MSc is a Gynecologist - Obstetrician who maintains a private practice in Agia Paraskevi, within the Premedicare Multispecialty Clinic. He holds a medical degree from the School of Medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a postgraduate degree in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Robotic Surgery, and Telesurgery from the same university's School of Medicine. Additionally, aiming for continuous professional development, he has attended numerous seminars and workshops, obtaining corresponding certifications. He initially specialized in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery at the General Hospital "Elpis," followed by specialization in Gynecologic Oncology at the Anticancer - Oncology Hospital of Athens "Agios Savvas." Subsequently, he completed his specialization in Obstetrics - Gynecology at the General Hospital - Maternity Clinic "Elena Venizelou." After obtaining his specialty, he remained at "Elena Venizelou" Hospital as a specialist Obstetrician - Gynecologist for two years. During his career, he participated in the obstetric care of many cases as well as numerous gynecological surgeries with an emphasis on minimally invasive surgery. Stefanatou Georgia is an Obstetrician - Gynecologic Surgeon, with a subspecialty in Pediatric - Adolescent Gynecology, and maintains a private practice in Athens. She has also completed postgraduate specialization in Gestational Pathology. She possesses scientific training and extensive experience in Cervical Pathology - Colposcopy. He has worked at the University Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) in Alexandroupolis. Moreover, he has served as a Consultant at the IASO, LETO, and REA Maternity Hospitals. He is a certified Trainer, in Greece and Cyprus, of the "ALSO Obstetric Emergencies" seminar, under the aegis of the Second Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of the University of Athens. Maria Sakellariou is a Gynecologist - Obstetrician and maintains a private practice in Panormou. She grew up in Athens and graduated from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where she also completed her postgraduate studies in "High Risk Pregnancy." She specialized in Obstetrics - Gynecology at the 3rd Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology of the University of Athens at "Attikon" University Hospital, completing one year of specialty training in General Surgery at the 2nd Department of General Surgery of the University of Athens at Aretaieio Hospital. Dr. Napoleon Xirokostas is a board-certified General Surgeon with subspecialty training in Laparoscopic, Robotic, and Oncologic Surgery. He maintains a private medical office in Rafina, Greece, and also serves as a Consultant Surgeon at the 1st Surgical Department of IASO General Hospital in Athens.

He completed his residency in General Surgery at Evangelismos General Hospital of Athens, the largest tertiary care and trauma center in Greece, where he also held the position of Chief Resident. Over the course of his training, he participated in more than 1,000 surgical procedures, including a wide spectrum of emergency, oncologic, and minimally invasive surgeries.

Dr. Xirokostas holds a Medical Degree (MD) from the Democritus University of Thrace and a Master of Science (MSc) in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

He completed his mandatory rural medical service at the General Hospital of Kyparissia and previously served in the Greek Army as a General Medicine Doctor, providing medical assessments and basic life support instruction.

He has received extensive training in trauma surgery (DSTC), laparoscopic and robotic techniques, microsurgery, and emergency abdominal procedures. He is certified in ATLS, ALS, and has participated in numerous specialized surgical workshops and cadaveric dissection courses across Europe.

Dr. Xirokostas has an active academic presence, with several peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international surgical congresses.

Perrakis Vasileios is an Obstetrician - Gynecological Surgeon and maintains a private practice in Pagkrati. He completed his studies at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and subsequently specialized in Gynecology and Obstetrics both in Greece and at international institutions. Specifically, he underwent further training at St. John’s Hospital Mid Essex in the United Kingdom and specialized in Ultrasound, Hysteroscopy, Laparoscopy, and Colposcopy departments within the UK National Health Service. Dr. Ioannis Zouridakis, MD, MSc, is a General Surgeon and Breast Specialist who has maintained a private practice in Korydallos since 1994 and recently within REA Hospital. He is a Scientific Collaborator and a PhD candidate at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He earned his medical degree in 1986 from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” with a doctoral thesis completed during his studies. He specialized in General Surgery at the General Hospital of Athens "Evangelismos" and further specialized in Laparoscopic Surgery at the University of Montpellier in France. He attended the European Advanced Level Course in Breast Disease Management for Surgeons in Athens and specialized in the treatment of breast diseases at the 6th Oncology Hospital "G. Gennimatas." Subsequently, he specialized in hernia surgery using dual mesh PHS & Prolene 3D Patch at Umberto I Hospital in Italy and also specialized in Minimally Invasive Operating Techniques in Colorectal Surgery. He has worked in numerous hospitals and clinics and has served for many years as the Director of the Surgical Clinic at Metropolitan Hospital. Athanasaki Anna is a Gynecologist - Obstetrician and operates a private practice in Chalkida. She graduated from the Medical School of the University of Patras and completed her specialty in Gynecology - Obstetrics. More specifically, she trained in hospitals in Athens and the United Kingdom and completed her training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the largest clinic in the country, the First University Clinic of the Medical School of Athens, at the General Hospital "Alexandra". Ziozia Vasiliki is a General Surgeon, Senior Registrar of the 1st Surgical Clinic at IASO and maintains a private practice in Nea Irakleio. She holds a degree from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Master's degree in "Surgical Anatomy" from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Ο Θεόδωρος Λιακάκος είναι Μαιευτήρας Χειρουργός Γυναικολόγος – Μαστολόγος με αναγνωρισμένα μεγάλη εμπειρία στην παρακολούθηση κυήσεων και κατέχει τη θέση του συντονιστή στην επιτροπή κύησης υψηλού κινδύνου του νοσοκομείου Υγεία - Μητέρα μαιευτική κλινική. Σπούδασε στην Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών.
