Gastroenterologist – Hepatologist M.D.

I am Alexandros Spyrantis, Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist M.D., with a private practice in Ilioupoli, Athens. I am also a Gastroenterologist Associate at the 1st Department of Gastroenterology and Interventional Endoscopy at IASO General Clinic.

I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Latvia in Riga and subsequently completed my specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Greece. My specialist training included the Hepato-Gastroenterology Department of G.O.N.K. “Agioi Anargyroi”, as well as clinical training at the Gastroenterology Department of General Hospital of Nikaia “Agios Panteleimon”. Prior to specialising in Gastroenterology, I trained in Internal Medicine, gaining broad clinical experience in the overall assessment and management of patients.

Gastrointestinal endoscopy is a particular area of professional interest. I have completed the Hellenic Gastroenterology Society’s Endoscopy School and have participated in hands-on training in invasive endoscopic techniques. I also regularly participate in scientific conferences and educational programmes in Greece and abroad, with a focus on Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy.

In my clinical practice, I assess and manage a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions, including gastroesophageal reflux disease, indigestion, gastritis, Helicobacter pylori infection, peptic ulcer disease, abdominal pain, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, diarrhoea and changes in bowel habits. I also evaluate gastrointestinal bleeding, colorectal polyps, diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as liver and biliary disorders.

I place particular emphasis on careful history-taking and a structured diagnostic approach. I believe that patients should clearly understand what may be causing their symptoms, why a particular investigation is recommended and what the next steps should be.

For this reason, I aim to give each patient sufficient time to discuss their symptoms, concerns and expectations. I explain the diagnosis and available treatment options in clear and understandable terms, while tailoring the medical approach to each individual patient.

My approach combines current medical knowledge with personalised care. I believe that effective medical care should take into account not only the clinical findings and scientific evidence, but also the individual needs and circumstances of each patient.

Alongside my clinical work, I maintain an active interest in medical research and continuing professional education. I have participated in scientific studies, presentations and posters at Greek and international conferences, with topics including inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, gastrointestinal endoscopy and a range of gastrointestinal conditions.

My aim is to provide patients with medical care that combines scientific expertise, careful diagnostic assessment, up-to-date knowledge and clear, compassionate communication.

For me, good medical care does not end with establishing a diagnosis. It also means providing clear information, an appropriate management plan and building a relationship of trust between doctor and patient.

Karatzas Pantelis is a Gastroenterologist who maintains a private practice in the Ampelokipoi area. He completed his doctoral dissertation at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a Medical degree from the same university. He received advanced training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy at the University of Hamburg, Germany, and specialized in Gastroenterology at "Evangelismos" Hospital and in General Pathology at the General Hospital of Chalkida. He is a university fellow at the University Gastroenterology Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens "Laiko" and has served as a scientific collaborator at the University Hepatogastroenterology-Endoscopy Unit of the University General Hospital “Attikon.” Furthermore, he is a member of numerous scientific societies, has attended numerous Greek and international conferences, participated in many specialized seminars, and has publications and written presentations both in Greece and abroad.

Η Βικτώρια Θώδου, MD,PhD, είναι Γαστρεντερολόγος – Ηπατολόγος με εξειδίκευση στην επεμβατική ενδοσκόπηση ανώτερου – κατώτερου πεπτικού και χοληφόρων αγγείων.Γεννημένη και μεγαλωμένη σε αθηναϊκό προάστιο, η γιατρός εισήχθη με Πανελλαδικές Εξετάσεις στην Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών το 2005, από όπου αποφοίτησε μετά από εξαετή φοίτηση.Αμέσως μετά την αποφοίτησή της, το 2011, μετέβη στη Γερμανία και συγκεκριμένα στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Έσσεν (Universitätsklinikum Essen), ονομαστό πανεπιστημιακό νοσοκομείο και το μεγαλύτερο μεταμοσχευτικό κέντρο ήπατος της Γερμανίας, για την ειδίκευσή της αρχικά στη Γενική Παθολογία, τον τίτλο της οποίας απέκτησε το 2017.Το 2020, ενώ ήδη διατελούσε χρέη επιμελήτριας στην ίδια κλινική, απέκτησε και τον τίτλο της Γαστρεντερολογίας και Ηπατολογίας.Κατά την εκπαίδευσή της μαθήτευσε δίπλα στον ονομαστό καθηγητή Univ.-Prof. Dr. Alexander Dechêne, σε διαγνωστικές αλλά και επεμβατικές πράξεις. Από το 2019 ξεκίνησε τις ενδοσκοπικές εφημερίες επείγουσας γαστρεντερολογίας παίδων και ενηλίκων, στο πλαίσιο των οποίων απέκτησε μεγάλη εμπειρία στην αντιμετώπιση επειγόντων περιστατικών σε ενήλικες (αιμορραγία ανώτερου και κατώτερου πεπτικού, στάση βλωμού, παραλυτικός ειλεός από κοπρόσταση, χολαγγειίτιδα), αλλά και σε βρέφη – παιδιά (αιμορραγία ανώτερου και κατώτερου πεπτικού, στάση βλωμού, κατάποση ξένου σώματος).Παράλληλα, συνεργάστηκε με τον διευθυντή της κλινικής, καθηγητή Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Heiner Wedemeyer, παγκόσμιας φήμης και αναγνώρισης καθηγητή ηπατολογίας, ως βασική εκπρόσωπος – συνεργάτις του στα προσωπικά του εξωτερικά ιατρεία ηπατολογίας.Στα ανεξάρτητα εξωτερικά ιατρεία του πανεπιστημίου εργάστηκε πολυετώς, ασχολούμενη κυρίως με ηπατολογικά περιστατικά, καθώς και με φλεγμονώδεις νόσους του εντέρου και με μεταμοσχευμένους ήπατος.Στο διδακτικό της έργο περιλαμβάνεται η θεωρητική και πρακτική εκπαίδευση των φοιτητών της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου του Έσσεν και των ειδικευομένων στη Γαστρεντερολογία.Με αυτά τα εφόδια, εξειδικεύτηκε για δύο ακόμη χρόνια στο καθολικό κρατικό νοσοκομείο του Έσσεν, Huyssenstift, κέντρο αναφοράς γενικής χειρουργικής και ογκολογίας, σε βαριές επεμβατικές ενδοσκοπικές πράξεις όπως ERCP και EUS.Στο ακαδημαϊκό της έργο, πέρα από τη διδακτορική της διατριβή στις ιογενείς ηπατίτιδες, συγκαταλέγονται αρκετές δημοσιεύσεις, κυρίως στον τομέα της ηπατολογίας (με βράβευση εργασίας σε πανγερμανικό συνέδριο), καθώς και η συμμετοχή σε πολυκεντρικές μελέτες.Αποτελεί τακτικό μέλος της Ευρωπαϊκής Εταιρείας Γαστρεντερολογικής Ενδοσκόπησης (ESGE), της Γερμανικής Εταιρείας Γαστρεντερολογίας και Μεταβολικών Νοσημάτων (DGVS), της Ελληνικής Γαστρεντερολογικής Εταιρείας (ΕΓΕ) και της Επαγγελματικής Ένωσης Γαστρεντερολόγων Ελλάδος (ΕΠΕΓΕ).Συμμετέχει όλα αυτά τα χρόνια σε διεθνή επιστημονικά συνέδρια που αφορούν τη Γαστρεντερολογία και την Ηπατολογία, και ιδιαίτερα το επεμβατικό τους μέρος.Από το καλοκαίρι του 2023, ύστερα από υπερδεκαετή παραμονή στη Γερμανία, επιστρέφει στη γενέτειρά της, δραστηριοποιούμενη στο Ιατρικό Κέντρο Αθηνών με τον τίτλο της Αναπληρώτριας Διευθύντριας της Β΄ Γαστρεντερολογικής Κλινικής, ενώ συνεργάζεται και με την Κλινική του Ψυχικού.Προς διατήρηση των ακαδημαϊκών της δραστηριοτήτων,συνεργάζεται επίσης με την πανεπιστημιακή κλινική του Λαϊκού Νοσοκομείου ως εξωτερική συνεργάτης.

Ο Αθανασόπουλος Νικόλαος είναι Γαστρεντερολόγος - Ηπατολόγος - Επεμβατικός Ενδοσκόπος και διατηρεί ιδιωτικό ιατρείο στον Πειραιά. Σπούδασε στην Ιατρική Σχολή του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών. Πραγματοποίησε την ειδικότητα της Γαστρεντερολογίας στο Γενικό Κρατικό Νοσοκομείο Νίκαιας. Έχει πλήρη εξειδίκευση και μετεκπαίδευση σε όλες σχεδόν τις πτυχές της ειδικότητας. Έχει μετεκπαιδευτεί στον τομέα της επεμβατικής ενδοσκόπησης στο Ευρωπαϊκό Ενδοσκοπικό Εκπαιδευτικό Κέντρο του Πανεπιστημιακού Νοσοκομείου της Ρώμης "Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore" και στο περίφημο Ενδοσκοπικό Κέντρο Εκπαίδευσης των Βρυξελλών (πολυπεκτομές, αντιμετώπιση οξείας αιμορραγίας ανωτέρου και κατωτέρου πεπτικού, αντιμετώπιση περιπτώσεων ενσφήνωσης βλωμού, τοποθέτηση ενδοσκοπικής γαστροστομίας, οισοφαγικών και εντερικών stent, ERCP). Επίσης, διαθέτει σημαντική κλινική εμπειρία στις κινητικές παθήσεις του γαστρεντερικού συστήματος, καθώς ο ιατρός ήταν αναπόσπαστο μέλος του Εργαστηρίου Κινητικών Διαταραχών της Γαστρεντερολογικής Κλινικής του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών. Μακρόχρονη και βαθιά είναι η εμπειρία και η γνώση που έχει αποκτηθεί στην Ιδιοπαθή Φλεγμονώδη Εντερική Νόσο, καθώς είχε την τύχη να θητεύσει κατά τα χρόνια της ειδίκευσής του στο τριτοβάθμιο ειδικό κέντρο για φλεγμονώδη νοσήματα του Γενικού Νοσοκομείου Νίκαιας, ένα από τα ελάχιστα κέντρα αναφοράς ΙΦΕΝ (ελκώδης κολίτιδα και νόσος Crohn) στη χώρα μας. Ο ιατρός έχει επίσης μετεκπαιδευθεί στην κλινική ηπατολογία, έχοντας παρακολουθήσει τις εργασίες του 4ου Σχολείου Κλινικής Ηπατολογίας κατά το ακαδημαϊκό έτος 2010 - 2011. Η συνεχής και άσβεστη επιστημονική και ερευνητική του δίψα αποδεικνύεται από το πλήθος δημοσιευμένων εργασιών, ανακοινώσεων, διαλέξεων, ομιλιών σε ελληνικά και ξένα περιοδικά και συνέδρια, καθώς και από τη συμμετοχή σε διεθνείς πολυκεντρικές μελέτες για την αναζήτηση και έρευνα νέων φαρμακευτικών θεραπειών που αφορούν κυρίως στις νόσους της ελκώδους κολίτιδας, νόσου Crohn και ηπατίτιδας B και C. Το μεγαλύτερο όμως παράσημο στην ως τώρα ζωή και καριέρα του θεωρεί ότι είναι η ίδρυση και συμμετοχή σε μια ανθρωπιστική οργάνωση, που ονομάζεται "ΔΩΣΕ ΕΛΠΙΔΑ", που ως στόχο έχει την δωρεάν και ανιδιοτελή παροχή βοήθειας σε χρόνιους πάσχοντες από νεοπλασματικά και μη νοσήματα. Αποτελεί ιδρυτικό στέλεχος και είναι αντιπρόεδρος του οργανισμού από το 2010.

Ενδοσκοπικό Τμήμα

Οι ενδοσκοπήσεις, (διαγνωστικές ή επεμβατικές), διενεργούνται με καταστολή υπό συνεχές monitoring όπως επιβάλλουν οι διεθνείς κατευθυντήριες οδηγίες και τα πρωτόκολλα καταστολής, καθώς το ιατρείο φέρει όλον τον εξοπλισμό που απαιτείται για την ασφάλεια του ασθενούς.

Το ιατρείο φέρει σύγχρονο ενδοσκοπικό εξοπλισμό με ψηφιακό επεξεργαστή εικόνας που επιτρέπει την καταγραφή φωτογραφιών κατά τη διάρκεια της ενδοσκόπησης.

Polykseni Kalisperati is a Gastroenterologist with extensive clinical experience and a strong academic/research background, aiming to provide comprehensive and personalized care to each patient at her private practice. Giannousis Ioannis MD, PhD is a Specialist Gastroenterologist - Hepatologist - Interventional Endoscopist based in Gerakas, maintaining a private practice there. He holds a Doctorate from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and has received advanced training in Interventional Endoscopy and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University Hospital in Milan, Italy. He is affiliated with Euroclinic Athens and is part of the Medisystem network of physicians. He holds a medical degree from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and specialized in Gastroenterology at the Brooklyn Hospital Center of Mount Sinai - Icahn School of Medicine in New York. He specialized in Interventional Endoscopy at the MD Anderson Cancer Center Hospital of the University of Texas and in Hepatology at the University of Miami - Jackson Memorial Medical Center. Karlaftis Anastasios MD is a Gastroenterologist - Hepatologist and maintains a private practice in Metamorfosi, while also collaborating with the endoscopy department of the diagnostic center "Ionio Iatriki." He is a PhD candidate at the University Gastroenterology Clinic of the Medical School of the University of Athens and a graduate of the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is also a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (FEBGH) and a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF). He initially specialized in Internal Medicine at the Naval Hospital of Athens and subsequently in Gastroenterology at the Gastroenterology Department of the General State Hospital of Athens. He received further training as a Clinical Researcher, supported by a fellowship from the Hellenic Gastroenterological Society, at the Gastroenterology Department of Saint Bartholomew's Hospital, University of London, United Kingdom. He then served for five years as Consultant and Clinical Researcher at the Gastroenterology Department of the General State Hospital of Athens. For 20 years, he served as Director of the Gastroenterology Clinic and the Endoscopy Department of the Central Clinic of Athens. Since 1991, he has actively participated in seminars, symposia, round tables, live endoscopic demonstrations, postgraduate seminars, and has been invited as a speaker and chairperson at national and international conferences. Lastly, he is the author of numerous foreign (English-language) publications in prestigious international gastroenterology journals. He is also a trainer of his colleagues in interventional endoscopic gastroenterological procedures. He served as president of the Professional Association of Gastroenterologists of Greece (EPEGE) for nine years.

Interventional gastroenterologist Konstantopoulos Panagiotis, after many years of professional experience abroad, has been the scientific director of the Gastroenterological Endoscopic Unit at the Athens Medical Residence since April 2022. During his stay in the Netherlands, he worked as a consultant at ADRZ Goes hospital where he performed over 3,000 endoscopies and had the opportunity to specialize in innovative techniques for the removal of large gastrointestinal polyps (endoscopic mucosal resection, chromoendoscopy) using advanced artificial intelligence devices. He served as a member of the scientific board of Admiraal De Ruyter Ziekenhuis hospital in the Netherlands as well as being responsible for scientific protocols and the endoscopy department, head of the outpatient gastroenterology clinics at Admiraal De Ruyter Ziekenhuis hospital, where he managed a large number of cases with inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) as well as numerous patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease – Barrett's esophagus, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, and hemorrhoids. Following successful examinations at St. Antonius Ziekenhuis University Hospital in Utrecht, he was appointed responsible for screening the Dutch population for colorectal cancer (Bevolkingonderzoek accredited).
