Maria Gaggadi is a specialized Pulmonologist with over 20 years of experience as a Consultant in major public and university hospitals in Athens (Sotiria, Laiko, Evangelismos, Sismanogleio) and maintains a private practice in Piraeus. She currently holds a permanent position as Senior Consultant A’ at the General Hospital of Athens “SOTIRIA.” Throughout her extensive career in the National Health System, she has gained comprehensive experience in the diagnosis and management of the entire spectrum of respiratory diseases, such as bronchial asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), interstitial lung diseases, lung cancer, as well as smoking cessation. She has particular expertise in bronchial asthma, as since 2021 she has been responsible for the Severe Bronchial Asthma Clinic in the Outpatient Department. Additionally, she possesses significant experience in interventional pulmonology procedures, including bronchoscopy and EBUS, certified by the European Respiratory Society (ERS).
She graduated from the Medical School of the University of Bologna and completed her Pulmonology specialty at the General Hospital of Athens “SOTIRIA.” In addition to the Greek specialty title, she holds the European Diploma in Pulmonology from the ERS. She has completed postgraduate studies in Pulmonary Hypertension at the University of Bologna and in Occupational and Environmental Health at the National School of Public Health. She holds a PhD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) focusing on obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD and bronchial asthma). Recently, she was further trained at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London in the field of interstitial lung diseases, such as pulmonary fibrosis.
