Το 2016 απέκτησε τον τίτλο της εξειδικευμένης χειρουργού στον τομέα αυτό, από την αντίστοιχη γερμανική εταιρεία (D.A.F., German Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society). Ασχολείται με όλο το φάσμα της τραυματολογίας, με ειδίκευση στην αντιμετώπιση σύνθετων καταγμάτων και των επακόλουθων καταστάσεων τους. Αφού συγκέντρωσε μεγάλη χειρουργική εμπειρία και όγκο περιστατικών, απέκτησε, το 2018, τον τίτλο της εξειδικευμένης τραυματοχειρουργού, από τον αντίστοιχο ιατρικό σύλλογο της Βόρειας Ρηνανίας Βεστφαλίας. Maria Vlaxou is an orthopedic surgeon who maintains a private practice in Ilioupoli and concurrently holds the position of attending physician in the pediatric orthopedic clinic at Metropolitan Hospital.

Είναι ενεργό μέλος του Ιατρικού Συλλόγου Αθηνών (ΙΣΑ) και της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Χειρουργικής Ορθοπαιδικής και Τραυματολογίας (ΕΕΧΟΤ).Στόχος του είναι η παροχή σύγχρονης, εξατομικευμένης ορθοπαιδικής φροντίδας βασισμένης στις τελευταίες επιστημονικές κατευθυντήριες οδηγίες.
