Συμμετέχει σε κλινικές μελέτες για την εφαρμογή των βιολογικών παραγόντων στη θεραπεία των ρινικών πολυπόδων σε συνεργασία με πνευμονολόγους.  Είναι μέλος πολλών ελληνικών και διεθνών επιστημονικών εταιρειών, μεταξύ των οποίων η European Laryngological Society, η British Association for Paediatric Otolaryngology, και η Ελληνική Εταιρεία Φωνιατρικής και Διαταραχών Κατάποσης, της οποίας είναι τακτικό  μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου.

Ioannis Petrakos is an Otolaryngologist and maintains a private practice in Piraeus. He holds a Doctorate from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and is a graduate of the Medical School. He serves as a Consultant at the 2nd ENT Clinic of the Athens Pediatric Center, and has previously worked at major hospitals in Attica such as the Athens Naval Hospital, the Specialized Anticancer Hospital of Piraeus "Metaxa," the General Children's Hospital of Athens "P. & A. Kyriakou," and the General Hospital of Athens "Evangelismos." Finally, the physician offers a wide range of services at his practice and is a member of the Athens Medical Association and the Hellenic Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.
