Ολοκλήρωσε το μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα εξειδίκευσης στην ορθοδοντική το 1985, αφού εκπόνησε με επιτυχία τη διατριβή του πάνω στο θέμα "Membrane labilizing agents and bone in tissue culture". Παράλληλα, στο πλαίσιο της εκπαίδευσής του στο Harvard, ασχολήθηκε με την ιατρική έρευνα και απέκτησε το πτυχίο "Master in Medical Science". Από το 1987 έως και σήμερα, ασκεί ανελλιπώς την ορθοδοντική στο ιατρείο του στο Χαλάνδρι, ενώ παράλληλα έχει συνεργασίες με οδοντιατρικά κέντρα στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό. Έχει βαθιά γνώση των πλέον σύγχρονων μεθόδων και τεχνικών της ορθοδοντικής (γλωσσική ορθοδοντική, αόρατη ορθοδοντική με τις μεθόδους Invisalign, Orthocaps, Clear Aligners κ.α.). Το 2004 εκπαιδεύτηκε στη μέθοδο "Invisalign" έχοντας την επίσημη πιστοποίηση, την οποία εφαρμόζει μέχρι σήμερα, σε εφήβους και ενήλικες. Από το 1982 έως και σήμερα, συμμετέχει στα συνέδρια της Αμερικανικής Εταιρείας Ορθοδοντικών, της Ευρωπαϊκής Ορθοδοντικής Εταιρείας, της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Ορθοδοντικής και Γναθοπροσωπικής Μελέτης και Έρευνας, καθώς και της Εταιρείας του Harvard για την πρόοδο της Ορθοδοντικής. Τέλος, ο Βουγιουκλής Νικόλαος είναι ένας από τους πλέον έμπειρους ορθοδοντικούς στην Ελλάδα, με προσφορά στον ασθενή που ξεπερνά τα 30 χρόνια.
