Ο Πετρίδης Ιωάννης είναι Γαστρεντερολόγος, πτυχιούχος της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου L’Aquila Ιταλίας. Το 2001, κατόπιν διεξαγωγής κρατικών εξετάσεων, όπου και του απονεμήθηκε υποτροφία, ξεκίνησε την ειδικότητα στην Γαστρεντερολογία και Ενδοσκόπηση του Πεπτικού στην Πανεπιστημιακή Γαστρεντερολογική Κλινική του Πανεπιστημίου της L’Aquila Ιταλίας, την οποία και ολοκλήρωσε το 2005 με την μέγιστη βαθμολογία (50/50 magna cum laude). Το 2006 ξεκίνησε την μετεκπαίδευσή του πάνω στον τομέα της Ηπατολογίας και στον τομέα μεταμοσχεύσεων συμπαγών οργάνων (Fellowship in Transplant Hepatology) στο εξειδικευμένο κέντρο έρευνας και μεταμοσχεύσεων ISMETT του Πανεπιστημίου του Pittsburgh στην Ιταλία, ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα κέντρα μεταμοσχεύσεων συμπαγών οργάνων της Ιταλίας, στο οποίο εργάστηκε διατελώντας όλα αυτά τα χρόνια σημαντικό κλινικό και ερευνητικό έργο.
