Δαμουλάκη Μαρίσσα (WeCope)

Marissa Damoulaki is a Psychologist, graduate of 2017 from the University of Crete, with a master's degree in History and Theory of Psychology from the University of Groningen (Netherlands) and continuing education in Systemic Family Therapy at Ergastirion of Systemic Thinking and Education. She works as a psychologist in middle schools, high schools and (this year, 2023-24) elementary schools in special education. In her office "WeCope" - Critical Outlook & Practical Enhancement of Mental Health she works with children, adolescents and mainly adults. She works under the principles of a Critical Approach to psychology and avoids the use of diagnostic terminology and psychologization/medicalization. Based on systemic theory and focusing on ethics in clinical practice, she draws synthetic techniques from various psychotherapy currents to formulate each time a unique plan of cooperation with each individual. Her research interest concerns psychologization, i.e. the popularization of psychological knowledge. On the occasion of the existence of historical examples that in the past were a psychological disorder, but now normal behavior, such as homosexuality, she examines whether the rise in popularity of psychology intensifies or overturns the social stigma of mental illness and its how one experiences it. She has attended seminars and workshops on Dramatherapy, Prevention and Handling of Domestic Violence and has completed her internship at the Mental Health Center of Rethymno. She occasionally writes articles in Haniotika Nea about psychology and culture issues.
