Η πιθανή ημερομηνία τοκετού μίας εγκυμοσύνης θα πρέπει να υπολογίζεται κατά τον υπέρηχο αυχενικής διαφάνειας, ακριβώς γιατί πολλές φορές ο κύκλος μίας γυναίκας είναι άστατος. Αν υπάρχουν λόγοι να γίνει τοκετός στις 38 εβδομάδες καλό θα ήταν να γίνει, ούτως ή άλλως το έμβρυο είναι πλήρως ανεπτυγμένο. Αν δεν υπάρχει λόγος να γίνει τοκετός στις 38, η καλύτερη περίοδος είναι μεταξύ 39 και 40 εβδομάδων κύησης.
