Το 2001 απέκτησε την Ευρωπαϊκή πιστοποίηση Κολποσκόπησης από το Βασιλικό Κολλέγιο Μαιευτήρων - Γυναικολόγων του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου, ενώ το 2002 πιστοποιήθηκε από το Family Planning Association της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας. Ο Ιωάννης Κ. Ράπτης είναι Μαιευτήρας - Χειρουργός Γυναικολόγος με εξειδίκευση στις κυήσεις υψηλού κινδύνου, την ενδοσκοπική χειρουργική και την υποβοηθούμενη αναπαραγωγή. Υπήρξε ένας από τους πρώτους λαπαροσκόπους παγκοσμίως που πραγματοποίησαν λαπαροσκοπική θεραπεία της πρόπτωσης μήτρας με χρήση των συνδέσμων Cooper (Λαπαροσκοπική Κτενοπηξία – Laparoscopic Pectopexy – Laparoskopische Pektopexie) καθώς και λαπαροσκοπική θεραπεία της κυστεοκήλης χωρίς την χρήση πλέγματος (Laparoskopische vordere Plastik) με εξαιρετικά αποτελέσματα. Τον Νοέμβριο του 2017 πραγματοποίησε την πρώτη επέμβαση Λαπαροσκοπικής Κτενοπηξίας στην Ελλάδα και εισήγαγε τον αντίστοιχο ελληνικό ιατρικό όρο.
