Η χρήση της φορητής συσκευής BrainSpy Plus (Micromed) καθώς και η video-ΗΕΓ καταγραφή βοηθά κυρίως στην παρακολούθηση ασθενών με επιληψία, τη διάγνωση της επιληψίας, αλλά και τη διαφορική διάγνωση από άλλες καταστάσεις (πχ διαταραχές ύπνου, ψυχογενή επεισόδια, εγκεφαλοπάθειες στη ΜΕΘ). Καταγράφεται ο ασθενής με την τοποθέτηση της φορητής συσκευής στο εργαστήριο και η διάρκεια της καταγραφής είναι περίπου 24 ώρες. Η μέθοδος παρακολούθησης ασθενών με τη φορητή συσκευή δίνει τη δυνατότητα να καταγράφεται παρατεταμένο (έως 48h) ηλεκτροεγκεφαλογράφημα, καθώς και άλλες παραμέτροι σε φυσιολογικές για τον ασθενή συνθήκες καθημερινότητας, αποφεύγοντας την αρνητική επίδραση της εντός νοσοκομείου καταγραφής και το επιπλέoν κόστος νοσηλείας. Το πλεονέκτημα της μεθόδου είναι ότι ο ασθενής φεύγει μετά την τοποθέτηση του μηχανήματος και επιστρέφει στο σπίτι του.
