He specialized in Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Heraklion and received further training in Laser Refractive Surgery at the Vardinogiannis Laboratory of the University of Crete, as well as in Cataract Surgery and Corneal Transplantation in the United Kingdom. He has served as the Scientific Director at the Vardinogiannis Laboratory for Transplants and Ophthalmic Microsurgery, and as a Consultant Ophthalmologist responsible for corneal transplants in hospitals in the United Kingdom. He has numerous publications in medical scientific journals, as well as significant participation in conferences with lectures and presentations. Finally, he is a member of medical associations and scientific societies both in Greece and abroad.

Giavi Varvara is a Ophthalmic Surgeon and maintains a private practice in Athens. She studied at the Medical School of Patras, graduating in 2010.
