Dr. Maria Ioanna Xatziioannou is an Obstetrician-Gynecologist who was born and raised in Athens. She graduated from the Medical School of the University of Patras. She specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology initially at Thriasio General Hospital and subsequently at the 1st Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of the University of Athens at Alexandra General Hospital. Over the past three years, she has been working in the Prenatal Diagnosis Department of Alexandra General Hospital, performing numerous obstetric ultrasounds and invasive prenatal diagnostic procedures daily. Αποφοίτησε μετά από 6ετή φοίτηση από την ιατρική σχολή του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών με βαθμό “λίαν καλώς” και μετέβη στη Γερμανία, όπου ειδικεύτηκε στη μαιευτική και γυναικολογία. Τα τελευταία 6 χρόνια της παραμονής του εκεί εργάστηκε στο ακαδημαϊκό νοσοκομείο Agaplesion Allgemeines Krankenhaus Hagen του πανεπιστήμιου Ruhr Bochum όπου και έλαβε τον τίτλο του Επιμελητή Α’ (Oberarzt). Υπήρξε ένας από τους πρώτους λαπαροσκόπους παγκοσμίως που πραγματοποίησαν λαπαροσκοπική θεραπεία της πρόπτωσης μήτρας με χρήση των συνδέσμων Cooper (Λαπαροσκοπική Κτενοπηξία – Laparoscopic Pectopexy – Laparoskopische Pektopexie) καθώς και λαπαροσκοπική θεραπεία της κυστεοκήλης χωρίς την χρήση πλέγματος (Laparoskopische vordere Plastik) με εξαιρετικά αποτελέσματα.
