Ανοσοθεραπεία στον καρκίνο νεφρού: πρόληψη ή καθυστέρηση υποτροπής;

Καλησπέρα, η επικουρική ανοσοθεραπεία μετά από ένα χειρουργείο για καρκίνο νεφρού βρέθηκε ότι αυξάνει το χρονικό διάστημα μέχρι την υποτροπή της νόσου. Ασφαλώς ορισμένοι ασθενείς δεν θα υποτροπιάσουν ποτέ. Η ομάδα όσων έλαβαν ανοσοθεραπεία, συγκριτικά με αυτούς που δεν έλαβαν, είχε μεγαλύτερο χρόνο μέχρι την υποτροπή της νόσου. Μάλιστα το όφελος είναι μεγαλύτερο όσο πιο επικίνδυνα χαρακτηριστικά είχε ο όγκος. Πρόσφατα αποδείχθηκε ότι στην ομάδα των ασθενών που πήραν ανοσοθεραπεία αυξάνεται και η ολική επιβίωση και όχι απλά ο χρόνος μέχρι την υποτροπή της νόσου.
