Το 2006 εισήχθει στο τμήμα της Ιατρικής στο Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης, όπου και το 2012 ολοκλήρωσε τις σπουδές της. Η Δρ. Ελευθερία Χόρτη σπούδασε Ιατρική στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Έσσεν και ολοκλήρωσε τη διδακτορική της διατριβή το 2020, με θέμα τις αυτοάνοσες ενδοκρινοπάθειες σε ασθενείς με μεταστατικό μελάνωμα υπό ανοσοθεραπεία. 

Από το 2016 έως το 2022 εργάστηκε ως ειδικευόμενη ιατρός στη Δερματολογική Κλινική του Πανεπιστημιακού Νοσοκομείου Έσσεν, όπου απέκτησε εμπειρία στην δερματολογία, και ιδιαίτερα στη δερματοογκολογία (καθημερινή φροντίδα ογκολογικών ασθενών με ενεργό συμμετοχή σε διεπιστημονικά ογκολογικά συμβούλια.με συμμετοχή σε κλινικές μελέτες φάσης ΙΙ-IV), και τη χειρουργική δερματολογία. Η Μαρία Μπακιρτζή γεννήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη και ολοκλήρωσε τη βασική εκπαίδευση στο 13° Λύκειο.

Μετά από επιτυχείς πανελλαδικές εξετάσεις εισήχθη το 2002 στην ιατρική σχολή του Δημοκρίτειου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης, από όπου και αποφοίτησε το 2008 με το βαθμό “λίαν καλώς”.

Αφού ολοκλήρωσε την υπηρεσία υπαίθρου το 2009 στο ΚΥ Πολυκάστρου, ξεκίνησε την τριετή εκπαίδευση στη γενική χειρουργική και αγγειοχειρουργική στο Klinikum Oberberg της Γερμανίας, την οποία ακολούθησε η εξάμηνη εκπαίδευση επειγοντολογίας στη μονάδα εντατικής θεραπείας.
