Έχει διατελέσει Ακαδημαϊκός Υπότροφος της Γ’ Μαιευτικής - Γυναικολογικής Κλινικής του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών στη Μονάδα Μαστού και είναι διδάσκων στα Μεταπτυχιακά Προγράμματα Σπουδών της Ιατρικής Σχολής ΕΚΠΑ "Παθολογία της Κύησης", "Παθήσεις Μαστού" και "Μητρικός Θηλασμός και Γονεϊκότητα". Τέλος, καταμετρά πολυάριθμες ανακοινώσεις σε ελληνικά και διεθνή συνέδρια, με μεγάλο αριθμό δημοσιεύσεων σε διεθνή περιοδικά με υψηλό δείκτη απήχησης. Επίσης, είναι μέλος σε Ελληνικές και διεθνείς επιστημονικές εταιρείες. Είναι ο μοναδικός Έλληνας Γυναικολόγος κάτοχος του Ευρωπαϊκού Προγράμματος Σπουδών "European Master's Degree in Surgical Oncology, reconstructive and aesthetic Breast Surgery". Ο γιατρός συνεργάζεται με τις Μαιευτικές Κλινικές Ιασώ, Ρέα και Λητώ και είναι επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος της Μονάδας μαστού στο Ιατρικό Π. Φαλήρου.

Ioannis A. Thanopoulos is an Obstetrician, Surgeon - Gynecologist and maintains private practices in Ilion and Kolonaki.
