Ο δείκτης ωριμότητας μας δείχνει απλώς την αναλογία των κυττάρων που βλέπει ο κυτταρολόγος στο Τεστ Παπ. Στην πράξη σημαίνει ότι δεν υπάρχουν ανώριμα κύτταρα, ότι τα περισσότερα είναι ενδιάμεσης ωρίμανσης και ένα μικρότερο ποσοστό είναι ώριμα. Αυτό είναι απολύτως φυσιολογικό, όταν το τεστ γίνεται λίγες μέρες μετά την περίοδο, γιατί εκείνες τις ημέρες τα κύτταρα του τραχήλου έχουν αυτή την εικόνα λόγω των φυσιολογικών ορμονών του κύκλου.
