Και τα δύο ισχύουν. Συνήθως πρόκειται για χρόνιες καταστάσεις οπότε και η βελτίωση τους θα είναι σταδιακή. Μπορεί να απαιτούνται φάρμακα όμως σίγουρα θα πρέπει και να αποφεύγονται οι παράγοντες που τα προκαλούν (συνήθως αντιφλεγμονώδη, ερεθιστικά τρόφιμα ή και το ελικοβακτηρίδιο), αλλιώς θα υποτροπιάσουν.
