  • Ειδικά στις ιογενείς γαστρεντερίτιδες αυτός είναι ο τρόπος μετάδοσης γι' αυτό εμφανίζουν και έξαρση σε συγκεκριμένες εποχές. (Στον καθημερινό λόγο, ομαδοποιούνται χάριν ευκολίας και οι τροφικές δηλητηριάσεις στο χαρακτηρισμό γαστρεντερίτιδα και εκεί προφανώς δεν ισχύει μετάδοση με επαφή. Επειδή όμως πρόκειται συνήθως για ήπιες αυτοπεριοριζόμενες καταστάσεις σχεδόν ποτέ δεν ταυτοποιείται η αιτία. )
