Σημαντικότερο εργαλείο για διάγνωση ΣΕΕ είναι η λεπτομερής λήψη ιστορικού. Όσο για το άγχος, η απάντηση είναι θετική, τα άτομα με ΣΕΕ είναι σχεδόν πάντα αγχώδη.
