Ναι, ορισμένα σεξουαλικώς μεταδιδόμενα νοσήματα (ΣΜΝ), όπως ο HPV, ο έρπης, η γονόρροια και τα χλαμύδια, μπορούν να μεταδοθούν και με στοματικό έρωτα. Ο κίνδυνος μετάδοσης εξαρτάται από τον τύπο του ιού ή του μικροβίου, την ύπαρξη ορατών βλαβών, και αν υπάρχει άμεση επαφή βλεννογόνου με την περιοχή.
Η χρήση προφυλακτικού ή ειδικού στοματικού φράγματος (dental dam) μειώνει σημαντικά τον κίνδυνο μετάδοσης, αλλά δεν τον εξαλείφει πλήρως, ειδικά για τον HPV και τον έρπη.
