Με τη στοματική επαφή ο άντρας μπορεί να κολλήσει ιούς και μικρόβια, η εντερική και στοματική χλωρίδα όμως εξαλείφει τα περισσότερα από αυτά. Η πιο συχνή λοίμωξη είναι από ιούς HPV, οι γνωστοί ιοί των ανθρωπίνων θηλωμάτων, οι οποίοι ευθύνονται για τα κονδυλώματα, όμως ευθύνονται (μαζί με άλλους επιβαρυντικούς παράγοντες όπως το κάπνισμα και το αλκοόλ) και για καρκίνους της στοματοφαρυγγικής κοιλότητας σε άντρες και γυναίκες. Δυστυχώς δεν υπάρχει αποτελεσματική πρόληψη για ΣΜΝ κατά το στοματικό σεξ, όμως αν υπάρχουν έλκη στο αιδοίο ή κονδυλώματα να αποφεύγετε την επαφή.
