Το escitalopram, ένα αντικαταθλιπτικό της κατηγορίας των SSRI, χρησιμοποιείται ευρέως για τη θεραπεία άγχους και κατάθλιψης.
Κάποιες έρευνες έχουν δείξει ότι μπορεί να επηρεάσει προσωρινά τη σεξουαλική λειτουργία – π.χ. μειωμένη libido, καθυστέρηση εκσπερμάτισης ή δυσκολία στην επίτευξη οργασμού.
Αυτές οι παρενέργειες φεύγουν με τη διακοπή ή την προσαρμογή της θεραπείας.
Σε ό,τι αφορά τη γονιμότητα, δεν υπάρχουν ξεκάθαρες αποδείξεις ότι το escitalopram προκαλεί μόνιμη μείωση της ανδρικής γονιμότητας.
