Λέγονται μικτές γιατί είτε το περιεχόμενο στο υπερηχογράφημα φαίνεται διαφορετικής σύστασης από την απλή είτε φαίνεται σαν να υπάρχει κάτι συμπαγές στο εσωτερικό του. Δεν σημαίνει ότι χρειάζεται απαραίτητα χειρουργική αφαίρεση αλλά σίγουρα είναι απαραίτητο να γίνει περαιτέρω διερεύνηση με παρακέντηση ή ίσως και βιοψία με βελόνη.
