Ο Οικονομόπουλος Θεοφάνης είναι Ογκολόγος και διατηρεί ιδιωτικό ιατρείο στους Αμπελοκήπους. Είναι Καθηγητής στην Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών ολοκληρώνοντας τη διδακτορική του διατριβή στο ίδιο πανεπιστήμιο με βαθμό "Άριστα". Κατέχει ειδικότητα στην Παθολογία και στην Ογκολογία. Από το Σεπτέμβριο του 2005 και για 5 χρόνια διατέλεσε Διευθυντής στην Β' Προπαιδευτική Παθολογική Κλινική του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών στο Νοσοκομείο "Αττικόν". Για 40 χρόνια αφιερώθηκε στη μελέτη των μυελοδυσπλαστικών συνδρόμων, εξειδικεύεται στην Ογκολογία ως μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου της Ελληνικής Συνεργαζόμενης Ογκολογικής Ομάδας. Η ομάδα του έχει παρουσιάσει σημαντικό έργο στη θεραπεία και έρευνα των νεοπλασματικών νοσημάτων, όπως φαίνεται στις παρουσιάσεις σε διεθνή συνέδρια και δημοσιεύσεις σε διακεκριμμένα ξενόγλωσσα ιατρικά περιοδικά. Για 5 χρόνια υπήρξε Πρόεδρος της επιτροπής εξετάσεων για την ειδικότητα Παθολογίας - Ογκολογίας. Μέχρι σήμερα, συνεχίζει την κλινική και ερευνητική του δραστηριότητα σε συενργασία με την Β΄ Προπαιδευτική Παθολογική Κλινική του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών και την Ελληνική συνεργαζόμενη ογκολογική ομάδα.
