Η γ-Gt αυξάνεται με το παραμικρό και με πολλές αιτίες. Άρα δεν υπάρχει εύκολη απάντηση και θα χρειαστείτε εκτεταμένο έλεγχο.

Συνηθέστερα αυξημένη γGT παρατηρείται σε ασθενείς που πίνουν αλκοόλ, ή είναι υπέρβαροι. Σε κάποιες περιπτώσεις μπορεί να υποδεικνύει άλλες νόσους του ήπατος
